The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 不喜欢男主，骨子里懦弱不暴力，特别是在学校里受欺负不反抗，他妹妹比他坚强聪明多了。
这片子意外的好。铺垫细节足够丰富，没有白交待的事儿，节奏紧凑，后面也越发有意思，结局也很有感觉。
耐心看下去值三颗星，但是叙事模式是怪奇物语那种长铺垫，东区梦魇那种社区家庭学校伦理日常类型，可以说开始是很没意思的，后期出现鬼也是没什么意思的，唯一有意思的是和坏人的智斗武斗，如果拍成密室逃亡类型，没有鬼，会更带劲，缩短铺垫减少伦理戏剧部分，能得高分！
前期铺垫长，反派不够变态。中期主角让关押也没带入感。
从想法到执行都平稳运作的电影 关于家庭暴力与校园暴力的寓言故事 将施暴者的恶剥离为一个单一的个体化身 恶的离去意味着家庭情感(父亲)与校园生活秩序的回归 也可以看成对于父亲暴力的去势 Ethan Hawke角色被多次暗示的背景故事也应证了这一点 杀害与埋葬的分离即是两种暴力带来的伤害 they were killed before they are dead 属于是完成度不错也有一定现实意义(虽略浅显)的当代恐怖片 这样的片自然不嫌多 另外拿pink floyd配乐是个不错的想法
好看！演员厉害，剪辑好，节奏好，想法也很新颖。难得惊悚片差点让我看哭。当然逻辑和反派还是有点莫名其妙
还不错嘛。不愧斯蒂芬金个仔的小说，整个儿就是老金年轻时的味道。
被铺天盖地的宣传欺骗了，就是平平无奇通灵小孩智斗双重人格虐童杀手。但是回忆部分伪纪录片式的拍摄手法以及低对比度的色彩画面反而比较惊悚。
原著小说作者Joe Hill，怪不得有点斯蒂芬金的味道。而且有点《怪奇物语》的感觉，男主妹妹像怪奇里的max

半真半假，电影故事算是HE，但现实中却十之八九BE。其实是蛮可怕的故事，因为很真实，值得一看，但电影的讲述方式并没有令人惊艳之处，所以三星。
被一部惊悚片感动哭了Finn is dope！！
“小伙伴”们齐心协力为男主创造生路的情节太感人了，都忽视了这是一部带有恐怖元素的片子了，兄妹俩的双向奔赴也很暖心，伊桑霍克这个酱油打得也太敷衍了。虽然不恐怖，但值得一看。
没有预期中精彩 最起码恐怖还不够 对于反派的刻画也基本没有 动机不明

《打死大反派》之《灵界电话指导》，小孩们拉个腾讯会议的话，男主是不是能更早逃出来？
风格和氛围塑造都很不错，可惜剧本太单薄。3星。
啊，好喜欢这样的戏，五个死掉的男孩帮助一个男孩成长，而且妹妹真的很牛。
